The Labor Commissioner’s primary duty is to protect Georgia’s workforce, which includes: union, child labor, work place safety issues, vocational rehabilitation and job training. However, protecting the workforce in the 21st century is different than it was a hundred-years ago. Our current labor department is stuck in the 19th century and has not adapted to these changes in today’s global economy. Protecting the workforce today means ensuring that workers are skilled and well educated so that Georgia can compete in this 21st century global economy. With a skilled and well educated workforce jobs will stay and new jobs will come.
